About Hong Kong
Hong Kong is one of two Special Administrative Regions (SARs) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the other being Macau. A city-state situated on China’s south coast and enclosed by the Pearl River Delta and South China Sea, it is renowned for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour.
Hong Kong is an autonomous territory, and former British colony, in southeastern China. Its vibrant, densely populated urban centre is a major port and global financial hub with a skyscraper-studded skyline. Central (the business district) features architectural landmarks like I.M. Pei’s Bank of China Tower. Hong Kong is also a major shopping destination, famed for bespoke tailors and Temple Street Night Market.
The weather is hot, humid and rainy Jun–Aug, with a typhoon season in Sep. Key events include Chinese New Year (Jan/Feb, dates vary), the Hong Kong International Film Festival (Mar–Apr), the Dragon Boat Festival (Jun) and National Day (Oct 1).
